The Barnard Family

The Barnards are usually traveling the world with their 4 children, so it was such a treat to photograph this unique family while they visited family for the summer.  We met at a park early in the morning for a San Pedro Family Portrait Session.   Fortunately, it was overcast and  we had a lovely umbrella of soft light.  Nick, the father,  once worked in a film lab long ago.  Knowing that bit of history, the roll of film in my hand took on meaning.  I loaded the camera and began with the family portrait.

As much as I love the essential family portrait, my favorite part is capturing the kids playing in between shots.   These real moments of the family are unrehearsed and come naturally. Watching the 2 brothers play reminded me of my two boys when they were young.  When I look back, I wished I had those memories captured by a photographer.  While I photograph families, it’s my hope to capture those precious moments and relationships between brother, sisters, and parents.   No family is perfect, but every family is unique and that’s what I want to capture.
